Using Standard Midi Files

The Roland Discover5 does not have an arranger or auto accompaniment section. It uses Midi Files as accompaniments for your solo playing. A new technology invented by Roland makes them much more flexible than you would normally expect. You can change all the instruments and feel of the midi file whilst it is playing, if you prefer your new settings, you can save the new song to disc or smart media.

You can choose from 72 templates of arrangements already preprogrammed into the Discover 5 simply by pressing the large touch responsive LCD Screen. You can change orchestration from rock to blues to classical within seconds

Traditionally you would start a midi file , let it run its course, and then play another, the Discover5 lets you do something different, you can replay the chorus, add verses, replay the intros on a whim, giving a natural and spontaneous feel to the midi files simply by pressing a single button. You decide where the buttons will take you to.

Singers preferred key

This is a really cool feature of the Roland Discover5 . Sing the highest note and the lowest note that you are comfortable with, these notes are then compared to the midi file automatically and the midi file is transposed to the best key for you.

Easy Song Management

Using the song finder you can classify songs by title style, and author. This makes controlling large song databases on the smart media ( 64 meg supplied) easier to access. Next song reserve allows you to have the next song ready to play whilst the current song is still playing. an added search technique is the play and search. Play the main theme of the tune and the Discover5 will find the tune for you.

Vocal Harmonizer

This is quite a common feature on high end keyboards, the Roland Discover5 adapts and improves it to suit playing with Midi Files. there are 90 preset setting sfor the Vocal Harmonizer.

The additional features are :

• Voice FX - allows you to change a mans voice to a womans
• Auto Tune - this can correct Flat Singing or convert speech into singing.
• Singer - allows you to switch quickly to a simple setup that would suit a more able singer, the effects can still be added at any time.
• Talk - an important feature that takes all the effects off instantly. An additional benefit is that it can reduce the volume whilst you talk and then restore to normal volume when you have stopped.
• Auto harmony - another new technology allows you to add harmonies based upon the note information contained within the Midi File, even if the Harmony track is not present.
