Korg Kronos Workstation
Please give us a call or email for detailed image of the individual product.
The Korg Kronos is the most substantial Korg workstation to hit the market. Korg have re-defined the workstation to bring us the largest and most comprehensive sound set and creative capabilities ever conceived in a single Korg workstation.
Under the sleek metal casing of the Korg Kronos lies a vast selection of sounds, features and new technology never before seen in a Korg Workstation. The sounds are generated via one of the 9 in-built sound engines:
- SGX-1 Premium Piano (Acoustic Piano)
- EP-1 MDS Electric Piano (Electric Piano)
- HD-1 High Definition Synthesizer (PCM Virtual Memory Technology)
- AL-1 Analog Synthesizer (Analog Modeling)
- CX-3 Tonewheel Organ (Tonewheel Organ Modelling)
- STR-1 Plucked String (Physical Modeling)
- MOD-7 Waveshaping VPM Synthesizer (VPM Synthesis)
- MS-20EX (CMT Analog Modeling)
- PolysixEX (CMT Analog Modeling)
The SGX-1 Premium Piano sound engine (100 Stereo Voice Polyphony - Same as 400 mono note polyphony): Offers two distinctive grand pianos; a rich German D piano, and a robust Japanese C model. Each uses superb, un-looped stereo samples sampled at eight velocity levels for each and every key. Thoughtful attention to detail preserves the realism and warmth of the piano sound; this extends even to sampling and reproducing the body resonance of the real grand piano, as well as the mechanical noise that occurs when the keys are played, or the damper pedal is pressed and released. Korg abandoned working within the limitations of existing sampling methods and took advantage Virtual Memory Technology (VMT), able to play large samples directly from the internal high-capacity Solid State Disk (SSD).
EP-1 (104 Voice Polyphony): The EP-1 sound engine reproduces six of the most popular classic electric pianos from musical history. The MDS (Multi-Dimensional Synthesis) technology eliminates the un-natural transitions between velocity switching samples and stops the un-natural behaviour of un-looped samples. It also provides the user with unique control over the tines, reeds, and noise elements that make up the essential character of these timeless and coveted electromechanical instruments. Each of the six electric piano models provides realistic simulations of the period amp, cabinet, speaker, and even the hard-to-find vintage effects that gives the original instruments their distinctive sound and tone.
HD-1 (140 Voice polyphony): The High Definition Synthesizer (HD-1) offers low-aliasing sample playback oscillators, full‐bandwidth multimode resonant filters with fast & smooth envelopes and LFOs. Aliasing is a term generally un-heard of by most people but the Korg Kronos does something very special here. Most products have bad Aliasing which is a generic noise created by tone generators and electronic when working your way up the keyboard notes. The higher the pitch, up the keyboard, the worse the aliasing and this noise is combatted by manufacturers by simply adding a filter that removes the noise frequencies so you can not hear it. Of course this then reduces the detail in the sound the higher up the keyboard you play which does not allow sounds to sound their best. Korg Kronos does not suffer from this problem, Korg have removed this filter to allow the best sound whilst enhanced technology minimises the aliasing problem before it begins.
AL-1 (80 Voice Polyphony): AL-1 is the same premium analog modeling sound engine that was first featured on the flagship Korg OASYS, but has been adapted for use in the Korg Kronos. Morphing waveforms allow the user to change oscillator shapes in real‐time. Resonance modeling lets you choose between classic filter sounds, and the extraordinarily flexible MultiFilter lets you create your own hybrid filter shapes. Hard sync, analog‐style FM, drive, low‐boost, and ring modulation offer huge amounts of sound creativity.
CX-3 (200 Voice Polyphony): The CX-3 re-creates Korgs own classic tonewheel organ. Who best to re-create a Korg classic other than Korg themselves! Amazingly realistic rotary speaker emulation where even the different rotary acceleration speeds can be heard within the sound for bass and treble whilst the organ sound itself offers un-matched warmth and tonal performance. The Korg Kronos allows the user to experience this authentic organ in a modern world environment. never before has transistor technology sounded so vacuum tube warm.
STR-1 (40 Voice Poly.): The Plucked String Synthesizer engine on the Kronos takes sting modelling to a new level. Play harmonics on a metal bar "plucked" by a piano or sing into a guitar string; with the STR-1, it's all possible. This sound engine takes real physical properties and allows the user to apply them where it would not be possible in reality. From guitars, harps, harpsichord and more the STR-1 is a unique Korg Kronos sound engine
MOD-7 (52 Voice Poly): This sound engine is a Waveshaping VPM Synthesizer. Korg Kronos combines Variable Phase Modulation (VPM), wave-shaping, ring modulation, samples, and subtractive synthesis, plus a modular patch‐panel system, with multiple stages of filtering. Introduce the patching system on the touch screen interface and you have a sound engine that is so versatile that no matter what sounds you want from classic DX E.pianos to epic pads the MOD-7 can deliver it all.
MS20EX (40 voice polyphony): Going back to the original founding products of synthesis and classic analogue sounds the original MS20 was a synthesizer that used patch cables and ingenuity to create sounds the modern day composer wants and loves. The Kronos uses Korg's CMT (Component Modeling Technology) the MS-20EX faithfully reproduces the MS-20 while dramatically expanding its patch panel functionality. The large touch screen allows users to patch cables on the screen with the touch of a finger to generate sounds through massive filter capabilities for the ultimate analogue synth sound.
PolySix EX (180 Voice Poly): PolySix was originally a six voice poly. synth with hands on controls for tonal control. The strings and pads that were such a major feature of the Polysix will be invaluable when you need the sounds of the early 80s. The classic arpeggiator built into the original Polysix is also provided. The Kronos has added modulation of every control on the front panel, for a world of sounds impossible on the original.
1 Major feature of the Korg Kronos is Smooth Sound Transition Technology. SST allows Kronos users to change the program/ combi sound setting without any glitch in the audio stream. It is normally a problem for live musicians when changing voice live - but Korg have eliminated this age old problem.
Difference between a Kronos and Kronos X
Korg launched the KRONOS X models approx 1 year after the date of the KRONOS. There is very little difference between the 2 models. During the massive growth of the KRONOS in the first year it was realised that KORG were selling lots of expansion sound packs as well as people recording audio in the sequencer which meant the KRONOS 32Gb drive capacity was being pushed to its limits. So the KRONOS X was then born which covered any space capacity issues by adding a doubled 60gb SSD drive and an extra 1gb of RAM, which is great for people using sample sounds. At the same time version 2 software was launched which also took advantage of the new increased capacity by adding new features.
So the difference between the KRONOS and KRONOS X is simply doubled SSD drive capacity and extra RAM memory. The KRONOS can be upgraded to the same specification as the KRONOS X, and of course the version 2 software is a free download. We advise you contact our specialist about upgrading your KRONOS.
