Update Sept 2017 : Yamaha's new hi-end keyboard is not going to be Tyros6 - It's going to be the Yamaha Genos

Our Yamaha Genos page is going to getting updated as we receive more information from Yamaha... might be worth book marking it !

There is very little info available at the moment and we`ll have to wait and see if any of my questions have been answered

The product image is of a Tyros5

Our understanding is that there is not going to be a Yamaha Tyros 6 Arranger Keyboard

Rumours abound about a new top-of-the-range Yamaha Keyboard, it certainly is due. Yamaha are keeping very quiet and the only thing they tell us is that there will not be a Tyros 6. It may be that after using the Tyros name for 5 successive models they feel it's time for a change

The Yamaha Tyros has been an extremely successful model dominating the worldwide market for top end keyboards, probably being the biggest selling instrument (by value) in the whole of the Musical Instrument market. The Tyros5 has been the most successful of all the Tyros models

Curiously the Yamaha Tyros5 has been current for 4 years, this is the longest time any Yamaha top-of-the-range keyboard has been current and indeed there hasn't even been a face lift like Yamaha did with the Yamaha Tyros4 when they introduced the black special edition model.

This begs the question What has Yamaha been up to ? Other models often give us clues to what`s happening and Yamaha Pro launched the Montage synthesizer last year. The sound quality on this instrument is truly amazing, the piano sound has 10 layers of touch making it more expressive that the CVP709

    Yamaha Montage 7

Will the Montage give us clues to what's in store ?

The Montage features a new touch screen and some completely new ways to create sounds

It's very stylish, maybe Yamaha are going for black with the new model

Yamaha Tyros 6 - Touch Screen

I remember the days when large screens were first introduced on keyboards, The Technics KN2000 was revolutionary in the way it operated and that system is essentially the format that current Tyros 5 models operate

Yamaha had the option to change the Tyros5 to touch screen (The CVP models had already changed to tough screen) but didn't do it, I suspect the reason : "If it ain't broke don't fix it!"

I expect that Yamaha will use a touch screen on the Tyros 6. They've had lots of feed back from CVP users which means they can get it right first time. Yamaha Tyros is the easiest keyboard to use and this quality is critical for the new model

    Yamaha Tyros 6 - Amplification

Don't shoot me if I get this wrong! Both manufacturers of premium keyboards adopt the same method of keyboard with optional ( and separate amplification ) Really good amplification is heavy and a premium keyboard needs really good amplification. Undoubtedly the current MS05 will be upgraded.

    Yamaha Tyros 6 -Styles

Interestingly there is a new organ out that doesn't have styles built in.... it uses other manufacturer's styles! Which begs the question... do styles have copyright?

We are into wish list area now, many customers would love to use other manufacturers styles on their Yamaha keyboard we think that Yamaha may be introducing this feature. Needless to say all styles will be revamped with the new sounds and effects already on the Tyros5. Yamaha's development team headed by Martin Harris are absolute masters of this.

    Yamaha Tyros 6 - Appearance

The new Tyros 6 will look amazing and I'm going to guess it will be black, there will definitely be at least 2 models available, our sales show the Tyros 5 -76 has outsold the Tyros 5-61 by approx 3 to 2. Maybe it's time to introduce an 88 note version ? Certainly the synth/workstation market would have all 3 options available.

    Yamaha Tyros 6 - Sounds

This is the biggy at the end of the day. It's what the keyboard is all about, it's the music we play and is the basis of our styles

It's Yamaha's specialty and all we can do is wait to hear it but I'm convinced we'll be amazed

    Yamaha Tyros 6 - Bluetooth

This is almost certainly a new feature... whether it's for playing along with Tyros 6 or to actually control some of the features of the Tyros 6 I'm not sure

Yamaha Tyros 6 - When is it due?

Bearing in mind that I stated at the top of the page that there will be no Tyros 6!

Looking at previous Yamaha Premium keyboard launches I expect the new premium keyboard to arrive Oct/Nov 2017 ....this is pure speculation so don't hold me to it
